Jack Boland, Board Chairman
San Francisco Bowl Game Association

Jack BolandJack Boland, President of the Baker Street Advertising firm, was elected Chairman of the Fight Hunger Bowl Board of Directors in February 2012. Boland, a University of San Francisco graduate, has spent his entire career in the advertising industry. He worked for over 20 years at Foote, Cone & Belding, where he was CEO of their San Francisco office. He then owned and operated Pickett Advertising prior to forming Baker Street in a merger of an award-winning ad agency and innovative consumer insight firm. Boland's experience crosses over to almost all product categories. He has worked on and directed campaigns for, among others, Levi Strauss, Citibank, Coors, Honda, Acura, AT&T, Mazda, MTV, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Hewlett-Packard. His sports marketing clients include the Giants, A's and Raiders, AT&T Park, Infineon Raceway, FOX Sports and the Charles Schwab Cup golf championship. Boland becomes the third Chairman in Bowl history. John Marks, the retired CEO of the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau [now San Francisco Travel] was the initial Chairman. He was succeeded by Peninsula venture capitalist Ron Kovas, who will continue his service to the Bowl as a board member.

Gary Cavalli, Executive Director
Fight Hunger Bowl

Gary CavalliCo-founder of the Bowl and the only Executive Director in its 12-year history, Gary Cavalli has brought the game from infancy to established star in the 35-game Bowl constellation. Cavalli was responsible for creating the first postseason matchup between two premier BCS conferences -- the Pac-10 and ACC -- that has attracted prime time coverage on ESPN and made the San Francisco contest one of the highest-rated college bowl games on TV. In 2010, Cavalli negotiated a new title sponsorship agreement with Kraft Foods and conference/team affiliations for the 2010-13 bowl cycle. The Fight Hunger Bowl currently links the anchor Pac-12 Conference with BYU.

The 2009 matchup between Boston College and USC achieved a Bowl record 5.3 rating, reached nearly 5.3 million households, and was ESPN's third-most-watched postseason game ever.

The game has played to capacity attendance at AT&T Park in four of the past six seasons.

A three-decade Bay Area sports management executive, he served as Sports Information Director and Associate Athletic Director at Stanford University, his alma mater; and was co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the American Basketball League, a pioneering women's professional league.

He has authored a book on Stanford sports and was co-executive producer of the award-winning football documentary "Disposable Heroes." He founded and operated Cavalli & Associates, a marketing and communications firm, for more than two decades and currently is an adjunct professor of sports management at the University of San Francisco. He has also conducted courses on baseball, football and sports marketing at Stanford.

Tom Hansen, Vice Chairman
San Francisco Bowl Game Association

Tom HansenTom Hansen joined the Board of Directors in March 2010 and was named Vice-Chairman in February 2012.

One of intercollegiate athletics' longest-tenured leaders, Mr. Hansen retired in July 2009 after serving a record 26 years as Pac-10 Commissioner. Under his leadership, the Pac-10 enjoyed unparalleled excellence, with member schools winning over 200 individual and team championships. His mark was felt in many areas. Under his watch came the inauguration of the Pac-10's nationally-prominent women's sports programs; dramatic expansion of the Conference's football & basketball TV packages; plus a prominent role in the development of the Bowl Championship Series and establishment of a strong lineup of bowl partners.
